Dyna-Glo Electric Garage Heater Installation & Wiring Guide

Dyna-Glo electric garage heaters are 240-volt hardwired units that mount to the ceiling or wall. This guide covers circuit requirements, wiring, mounting, and setup for all models from 4,800W to 15,000W.

⚠ Safety Warning

These heaters operate on 240V circuits. If you're not experienced with electrical wiring, hire a licensed electrician. Incorrect wiring can cause fire, electrocution, or equipment damage.

Installation Steps

  1. 1
Plan the circuit. Run a dedicated 240V circuit from your breaker panel to the heater location. Use the correct wire gauge and breaker size from the chart above. The circuit must be dedicated — don't share it with other outlets.
  2. 2
Mount the bracket. Install the ceiling mounting bracket using the included hardware. Use a stud finder to anchor into ceiling joists. The heater should hang at least 8 feet from the floor and 4 inches from the ceiling.
  3. 3
Run the wiring. Run 240V wire from the breaker panel through conduit to the heater's junction box. Leave enough slack to connect comfortably. Turn off the breaker before making any connections.
  4. 4
Connect the wires. Match wire colors per the diagram in your manual — typically black to black (L1), red to red (L2), and green to green (ground). Secure with wire nuts and close the junction box.
  5. 5
Hang the heater. Lift the heater onto the mounting bracket. Most models use a hook-and-slot system — no tools needed for this step. Adjust the angle brackets to direct airflow where you want it.
  6. 6
Turn on and test. Flip the breaker on. Set the thermostat to high. The fan should start and you should feel warm air within 2-3 minutes. For dual-heat models, test both half and full power modes.

Adding an External Thermostat

Models without a built-in thermostat (EG4800DGP, EG5000DGP, EG7500DGP) run at full power whenever they're on. To add automatic temperature control, install a 240V line-voltage thermostat (like the Honeywell TL8230A1003) inline between the breaker and the heater.

Mount the thermostat at chest height on an interior wall — not near doors, windows, or the heater itself. This gives the most accurate room temperature reading.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size breaker do I need for a Dyna-Glo electric garage heater?
It depends on wattage: 4,800W needs a 30A breaker with 10-gauge wire. 5,000W needs a 30A breaker. 7,500W needs a 40A breaker with 8-gauge wire. 10,000W needs a 50A breaker with 6-gauge wire. Always check the manual for your specific model.
Can I plug a Dyna-Glo electric garage heater into a regular outlet?
No. These are 240V hardwired heaters that must be connected directly to a dedicated circuit. They do not use a standard plug. Installation should be done by a licensed electrician if you're not comfortable with 240V wiring.
Can I add an external thermostat to my Dyna-Glo electric garage heater?
Yes. Models without a built-in thermostat (EG4800DGP, EG5000DGP, EG7500DGP) can be connected to an external 240V line-voltage thermostat. Wire it inline between the breaker panel and the heater. The EG7500DH and EG10000DH models have built-in thermostats and don't need one.
