Dyna-Glo Electric Garage Heater Installation & Wiring Guide
Dyna-Glo electric garage heaters are 240-volt hardwired units that mount to the ceiling or wall. This guide covers circuit requirements, wiring, mounting, and setup for all models from 4,800W to 15,000W.
⚠ Safety Warning
These heaters operate on 240V circuits. If you're not experienced with electrical wiring, hire a licensed electrician. Incorrect wiring can cause fire, electrocution, or equipment damage.
Circuit Requirements by Model
| Model | Wattage | Breaker | Wire Gauge | Heats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EG4800DGP | 4,800W | 30A | 10 AWG | ~500 sq ft |
| EG5000DGP | 5,000W | 30A | 10 AWG | ~500 sq ft |
| EG7500DGP | 7,500W | 40A | 8 AWG | ~750 sq ft |
| EG7500DH | 7,500W (dual heat) | 40A | 8 AWG | ~750 sq ft |
| EG10000DGP | 10,000W | 50A | 6 AWG | ~1,000 sq ft |
| EG10000DH | 10,000W (dual heat) | 50A | 6 AWG | ~1,000 sq ft |
| EG15000DH | 15,000W (dual heat) | 60A (2-pole) | 6 AWG | ~1,500 sq ft |
Installation Steps
- 1Plan the circuit. Run a dedicated 240V circuit from your breaker panel to the heater location. Use the correct wire gauge and breaker size from the chart above. The circuit must be dedicated — don't share it with other outlets.
- 2Mount the bracket. Install the ceiling mounting bracket using the included hardware. Use a stud finder to anchor into ceiling joists. The heater should hang at least 8 feet from the floor and 4 inches from the ceiling.
- 3Run the wiring. Run 240V wire from the breaker panel through conduit to the heater's junction box. Leave enough slack to connect comfortably. Turn off the breaker before making any connections.
- 4Connect the wires. Match wire colors per the diagram in your manual — typically black to black (L1), red to red (L2), and green to green (ground). Secure with wire nuts and close the junction box.
- 5Hang the heater. Lift the heater onto the mounting bracket. Most models use a hook-and-slot system — no tools needed for this step. Adjust the angle brackets to direct airflow where you want it.
- 6Turn on and test. Flip the breaker on. Set the thermostat to high. The fan should start and you should feel warm air within 2-3 minutes. For dual-heat models, test both half and full power modes.
Adding an External Thermostat
Models without a built-in thermostat (EG4800DGP, EG5000DGP, EG7500DGP) run at full power whenever they're on. To add automatic temperature control, install a 240V line-voltage thermostat (like the Honeywell TL8230A1003) inline between the breaker and the heater.
Mount the thermostat at chest height on an interior wall — not near doors, windows, or the heater itself. This gives the most accurate room temperature reading.
