BTU sizing: As a rule of thumb, you need about 30 BTU per square foot. A 300 sq ft room needs ~10,000 BTU. A 1,000 sq ft space needs ~30,000 BTU. Oversizing wastes fuel; undersizing leaves you cold.
Fuel type: Natural gas is cheapest to run if you have a gas line. Propane is the most versatile — available everywhere and works without electricity. Kerosene is best for emergency/backup heat. Electric is cleanest but costs more to operate.
Thermostat control: Models with built-in thermostats maintain your set temperature automatically and save fuel. Manual models require you to adjust the flame by hand.
Indoor safety: All Dyna-Glo vent-free heaters include an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) for safe indoor use. Forced air heaters are for outdoor/ventilated use only.
