Q I want to heat an enclosed porch 160 as ft Will this work ok? answer now
A Matt - I have a sunroom that is roughly 12' X10' I have a 3 panel sliding glass door on one side, and have windows on the other two walls. In all, I have a bit over 3 times the area of sliding glass door. The Windows are all double pane, insulated with storm windows. I live in Wisconsin, so it gets cold. What I can tell you is that if I use my 20,000 BTU kerosene heater in this room that it gets too hot relatively quickly. I plan on getting one of these heaters in this space. The only time I foresee a problem is when the temps are below 0°, and I will just supplement with an electric heater in the rare occasion that I need to use it. As a mechanical engineer, I feel confident in this. Does that help you? I think it really comes down to the insulating properties of the existing space - if decent, then 10,000 BTU should be sufficient. If not so great, then I'd jump to something around 20,000 BTU.
